Fuse Box Assembly

The fuse box supplies power to the GV servo drives. The X and Y drives are powered by a 208 VAC source, whereas the Z stage takes standard 120 VAC.

The fuse box is assembled from a plastic project box and some fuse holders. For the 208 Voltage line use at least 14 gauge wire. Local hardware stores usually carry 14/3 wire (14 gauge wire with 3 conductors) on spools that can be cut to the length you desire.
Epoxy is used for mounting the fuse harness to the project box. Mixable epoxies are available at the hardware store or from electronics distributors. They usually come as a pair of tubes - one for epoxy, one for catalyst. They are mixed as needed by squeezing out equal amounts of epoxy and catalyst onto wax paper or tin foil and mixing with a pipet tip, toothpick, or wooden coffee stirrer.

For binding two surfaces make sure each surface is clean. In the case of binding the fuse harness to the smooth plastic surface, it's a good idea to rough up each surface with sandpaper. Grind the sand paper across each surface to make some course scratches. Clean off any resulting plastic dust. The rough surfaces will bind much better and stronger this way.

Follow the instructions for mixing the epoxy and glue the fuse harness to the box in a location that is convenient for wiring.

A dremmel tool is very handy for drilling holes for the wires into the side panels of the project box. The wires can be safely held in place using rubber grommets (available from a local hardware store). Grommets are not required, but help protect the wires from the box edges. The 3/8" grommets used here require 1/2" holes.
Thread the wires in and open the wires in the middle with a razor blade to expose the hot, neutral and ground leads. Cut the hot and neutral for wiring to the fuse harness. Leave the ground wire intact as it does not need to be fused.

note: Do not paint yourself into a corner! In case your power cords have plugs mounted on the ends, make sure to slide one of the plastic panels onto the cords towards the closed end before doing the cord surgery and wiring. Otherwise you'll wire the harness, and find you're unable to install the box panels.

Attach crimp connectors to the wires and mount them to the fuse harness. Connectors are not required, the wires can be screwed directly to the harness if you prefer.
The fuse box is ready to be wired to the amplifiers.
